Somber Thoughts in the Days of COVID-19

Brain cancer is...

...forever aware of how good life is.

We celebrated Birthday Month Day 14 with Gordon, above, and LuAnn.  LuAnn made Darrell smile big with his 60th birthday present.

 

She made me smile big with my gift too, but squirrel hair paintbrushes don't photograph as well as 10 bottles of wine, at least when I'm the one behind the camera.

Somber Thoughts

Later in the afternoon, we received word from LuAnn that her friend and colleague passed way from COVID-19 today. They met through my Dad and then through their shared work with mosquito abatement and had been friends for decades. All our best goes out to his family, friends, and the people left to mourn him.

Team D., we attempt to focus this blog on looking for the best in life with Darrell's GBM diagnosis, but we never mean to diminish the fact that life is harder for many, many people.  Darrell says it's much harder for most people than for him.  We never mean to underestimate the divisions that COVID has created or the lives that it extinguishes or dampens.  

This week we especially are feeling for the nation's teachers as they face tough circumstances in meeting their students' needs.  Our son, Zach, is one of the teachers who is going back to his junior high school students face-to-face on Monday.  He questions (as do we) the safety of it for all, but Zach also knows that school is in many ways the best place and the best part of the day for his students.

No matter how diligently we keep up our search for silver linings, we accept the tragic realities of what our nation and our world are facing.  

We wrap our arms around all those who hurt.  We love you, World.
