Death does not build character - it reveals it....

On Sunday the skies opened after six weeks of sunshine and it was the day my beautiful pal Grace was being led to the funeral home and on Monday she was laid to rest. God bless one of the most beautiful, strong willed woman I have had the pleasure of knowing. My soul sister gone before us. Grace you really were a trooper. I admired the way you handled things. You were my hope and now your gone. I hope I have that strong a fight in me as you did, as girl did you stay strong! For so long. Its an incredible force, that life force. Some of us have it, some of us give up. But its there for the taking. I know that for sure. You put a huge space in my heart for more love and for that I thank you.

Monday
When I saw Graces little daughter Hannahs pink bow sticking up at the top of the church this morning, my heart squeezed a double beat. It hurt. The type of beat that you sort of miss a breath and try to catch up by taking another little one, in the meantime the tears are popping out the corner of your eyes. The flowers distracted me, they were beautiful really colourful and full of character, like Grace. Her father and friends said some beautiful words about the fun and funny creative beauty and then the song that set off the sniffles and tissue rummage - Time to say goodbye...ensued.

Its so sad to say goodbye to a young mother, fiance, daughter, friend. But thats life. Its the unknown that freaks us out. We are born and we die everyday.  Some know its coming, others dont. We have this silent partner that we call our body for such a small amount of time. Its only when we get sick or someone close to us gets sick and we see the breakdown, that we realise how precious life is. Cancer changes lives. Cancer also changes minds. Cancer is tough. Cancer can be good for some as some who are awakened by their misfortune will know and realise the change that was needed. Others wont and thats fine too. Cancer is the a lifechanging experience for us all. And its how we manage that, that changes lives.

I am a fortunate one in that I get to appreciate and meet the most beautiful people who have shown me what it is to live, what it is to know and what it is we need.

Goodbye Grace Marie. I will see you in a while.

One time while living in New York myself and my friend Lola used to sing Amazing Grace after some weekend ceremonies.
I dedicate this to you angel Grace,

On another note -
Im going to be working on some artwork and writing some stuff over the next coming weeks about death; how we look at death and discuss it. As I feel sometimes its a subject we throw under the carpet very easily as well, its easier. We will face it when it comes to us. But you know, I think its good to talk about it. To inform, to inspire and to connect us in this process - I have done some work on it over the last two years that I would like to share.

So I would love to open up a discussion about it - how do you feel about death? How do you feel talking to someone who is passing of cancer or living with it? What do you do around the subject?

No pressure - just want to do a good show and get you all involved somehow.

Love and good blessings,

Fi x

Some clippings -
Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have death thrown at them.
Beauty delights the eye, understanding comes with wisdom and pureness comes from having death at the door.

Death is not the end - its the beginning, so being aware of death will take you places you never knew was possible.
The spirit never dies
Bright light of salvation opens dark and empty spaces inside ourselves
