Zurak Cancer Foundation Donates To Pediatric Oncology Unit of KATH
The World Cancer Day is a day set aside by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals and objectives of the World Cancer Declaration, which was written in the year 2008. It is an international day marked on 4th of February every year to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. The day was set aside by the international community to increase awareness and education on cancer with the slogan "We can. I can".
This year’s World Cancer Day event in Kumasi was a special one as two Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Zurak Cancer Foundation (ZCF) and Institute of Research and Community Planning Ghana (IRCP_GH), partnered to donate some items to the Pediatric Oncology Unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi of the Ashanti Region on the Sunday, February 4, 2018 at about 10:00am.
Zurak Cancer Foundation (ZCF) is a policy-oriented and service delivery Non-Governmental Organization providing solutions to the cancer prevalence in the country through awareness, education, and free screening programs in hard to reach communities and slums.
Institute of Research and Community Planning Ghana (IRCP_GH) is also an independent Non-Governmental Organization aimed at creating innovations in research in areas related to health, environmental, socio-economic among others, whose mission is to conduct researches to unearth and disseminate in these areas for the purposes of improving individual and community welfare and answering to global challenges as well as conducting community services and empowerment to enhance the development of human, social, and natural potentials to achieve the social welfare of the Ghanaian communities.
The ZCF team was led by Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Sadik, who is the Deputy Ashanti Regional Director for ZCK and the IRCP_GH team was led by Mr. Farhan Safyan, the Executive Director of the IRCP_GH organization.
The two teams together donated items consisting of cartons of milk, kalyppo drinks, bottled voltic mineral water, and boxes of biscuits, washing powder and packs of toilet rolls.
Mr. Barnabas, a staff at the pediatric oncology unit, received the items on behalf of the hospital.
The members of the two organizations interacted with the patients and their care-takers and shared some words of motivation and encouragement.
The staff, as well as the patients in the unit, were appreciative of the donation as it was apparent by the smiles on their faces.
